Who’s paying for the campaign?
#EthicalHour has been planning for this campaign for over a year. Everything we’ve done has been designed to make it possible. Our relationship with 181st Street means that they are donating their time, resources and volunteering hours to us for free.
In terms of budgets and the cost of the campaign, all costs are currently being met internally within Ethical Hour Ltd. We are not currently asking for donations, nor are any of the services being provided to campaign partners to facilitate their involvement in the campaign chargeable to them. All aspects of this campaign are free, and thanks to our partnership with 181st Street, we are able to offer a level of support to our partners that no other campaign in the sector can manage.
How do we select our partners?
#EthicalHour and 181st Street support every lawful action taken by our amazing community, and the sustainability community as a whole. The campaign is designed to influence governments, political parties and candidates. This means having the biggest voice possible.
Neither Ethical Hour Ltd nor 181st Street Ltd endorse non-legal actions. However, we cannot ignore the voices of large sections of our community. In terms of partnerships, the campaign will work with all partners who are willing to actively sit down and discuss sensible, political and policy solutions.
We are here to act as everyone’s voice in the corridors of power, so the community gets heard where it matters. Part of that is accepting that individuals and certain groups may take actions we disagree with, do not endorse, or are illegal. For those actions to be unnecessary, we have to give them an alternative way to make real change. So we will work with partners where sub-groups are taking action we may disagree with, but we will not actively court or engage those organisations whose sole purpose is to raise awareness by acting illegally or disrupting the quality of life of those people they are trying to defend, or attempting to hamper the democratic systems and process.
What about greenwashing?
We are open to working with anyone who supports climate, nature and quality of life. Every voice that takes part helps us influence the political parties.
Campaign partners will not be allowed to use the campaign to greenwash but we will not be turning away those partners who are on the sustainability journey.
The experts at 181st Street provide Green Claims Code audits to their clients, and we will be using the Green Claims Code and their expertise as a framework for assessing the commitments and intentions of any potential partners. We will not be auditing partners as part of the campaign or partner selection process, as we want to remain as open and accessible as possible to anyone motivated to create real change. However, we will begin each partnership with a discussion between leadership teams to ensure our values and intentions are aligned.
