1.5% for 1.5C

The next UK government will be the last government capable of making change before 2030

Whichever party wins the election, they will be the last government with the power to impact life or death climate targets.

The next government will be the last that can build the infrastructure we need, implement policies and see them through to completion and make a real impact before 2030.

At the next election, it’s not just about your vote. It’s what they do with it.

Politicians need to be spending time on fixing our climate and the issues that affect us every day.

That’s why this campaign exists.

To work out what needs to be done and what can be achieved by 2030.

To tell government that it needs to happen.

To demand that the next government actually spends the time it needs to to save our planet.

The only manifestos that matter

If the political parties aren’t promising to spend the time, it doesn’t matter what they pledge to do.

Not every climate demand will make it into a manifesto.

Not every amendment or piece of legislation, and certainly not everything we need to happen.

That’s why the manifesto promise needs to be 1.5 for 1.5.

1.5% of all parliamentary time devoted to climate, nature & quality of life

The next government will have 5 years to fix the planet.

The solutions we need for climate and nature already exist.

That’s why we’re asking for the political parties to promise to spend at least 1.5% of parliamentary time focusing on passing legislation, amendments, rules and devolved decision-making, concentrating purely on the climate and nature issues that impact us every day.

If we don’t limit global heating to 1.5 degrees by 2030, the consequences will be deadly.

So it’s not unreasonable to say that if your politician won’t spend 1.5% of their time on this, they shouldn’t be in elected office.

So how does this work?

Sustained action, not one-off protests.

  • On April 26th, we launch our awareness-raising campaign – we can’t change the world if nobody turns up!
  • On May 22nd, we will launch Britain’s largest ever climate, nature and quality of life consultation – every voice matters, every charity matters, every business matters, every person matters. We will be asking everyone to give us 8 minutes a week to add their voice.
  • On January 1st, based on your feedback, your opinions and your knowledge, we will launch the world’s largest climate, nature and quality of life advocacy campaign. A list of sensible, achievable asks, designed specifically to allow you and the people that matter to you to influence the political parties and change the course of the next election.
  • The oil industry has lobbyists, and now so does the climate emergency. Our combined action won’t just force them to listen, it will force them to make promises they can be held to. While you are pushing to make the party machines listen, our network of charities, ethical businesses and campaigners will be in the room pushing the issues that matter for you.
  • When the general election is called, we will work with every one of you. Every charity, ethical business and campaigning partner to leverage your voice and hold the political system to account, making climate, nature and quality of life central to the futures of all the major political parties.
